Sara Ali Khan recently rocked a stunning lehenga by Mayyur Girotra Couture that was truly a blend of heritage and sustainability. This unique outfit was created using five vintage brocade saris, highlighting Sara’s love for traditional craftsmanship and timeless fashion. She wore this bespoke piece for the Ganpati celebrations at the Ambani residence, and it took about a week to bring the design from concept to completion, all with meticulous handwork.
The lehenga, bursting with vibrant colors and rich textures, is part of Mayyur Girotra’s exclusive collection for clients who appreciate slow, sustainable fashion. Mayyur shared that he and his mother collected these beautiful antique saris over the years, with the intention of preserving their history while giving them a fresh twist. The goal? To repurpose these classic textiles into something new while honoring the cultural stories they carry.
While the lehenga itself didn’t need much embellishment thanks to its intricate brocade design, the dupatta was given an extra touch of elegance with pure zardozi and dabka work. Dabka, a technique that originates from the Middle East, and zardozi, an ancient Mughal craft using gold and silver threads, added a regal flair to the look. The use of these traditional methods stayed true to the antique roots of the ensemble while maintaining a modern appeal.
Styled by the talented Ami Patel, Sara’s look was completed with a stunning pearl and uncut diamond choker and matching jhumkas from Aren Jewellers Jaipurwale. Her half-up, half-down hairstyle, adorned with fresh purple flowers, along with kohled eyes and nude lips, finished the look with a touch of elegance.
